We perform tests on cells, tissues and organs to diagnose and establish the prognosis of a disease, as well as to guide the clinicians in their choice of treatment (for example, your cervical/vaginal smear, liver biopsy, breast nodule, mole or polyp will be examined by the pathologist). Anatomical pathology is one of the 25 medical specialties (like gynaecology or surgery, for example).
Doctors who practice in this field are known as “anatomical pathologists”.
In the medical area we call them "anapaths" or "pathologists".
The title of “doctor specialising in anatomical pathology” is obtained after five years of study and internships on top of a medical degree.
